David Salle
Even though I don't paint as much as I did it before, Paintings give me a huge inspiration in many ways. One of my favorite painter, David Salle usually mix up the things on the canvas. I got some ideas of over-layering and juxtaposition- ing more than one image.
Lots of different things can happen in a collage space. It isn’t a new idea, but ideas are the easy part. The hard part is finding the form, finding something you can contain the ideas in that is convincing and gives you enough latitude.

Bell of King Seongdeok
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_of_King_Seongdeok
The bell is commonly known as the Emile Bell in both Korean and English. Emile, pronounced "em-ee-leh," is an ancient Silla term for "mommy".
According to legend, the first bell that was cast produced no sound when it was struck. The bell was recast many times but with no success. The king that had wanted the bell cast died after a while and his young son took over with the help of the queen. The son carried out what his father had started but still he didn't have any success. Later, a monk dreamed that if a child was cast into the metal, the bell would ring. The monk then took a child from the village and had her cast into the metal. When the bell was complete, the bell made the most beautiful sound when struck.
This is the legend of bell of king Seongdeok, and I found this image on internet.
the website where I found this is showing about some of methods how Japanese Gang kill their member or victims. It was translated in Korean, and it called this method as 'Emile Bell'. I thought this kind of relationship between original legend of the bell and the information about killing method is a sort of the thing that I have been finding and have been interested in. The form, Casting a human into metal, is almost same but the purpose, kind of spirit is completely different. Those 2 different story bring out different kinds of emotion and feeling and also have different level of cultural prestige. I think this is really fun, which could show what is regarded culturally important. I would like to find and explore the boundary between well known information and story of the things and poor but interesting information on the internet.

Zigeunerweisen
Constructing narrative with a single material.
I have always wanted to learn more about a structure of time based works, such as video or theatre. This film 'Zigeunerweisen' is a sort of drama, which has the main material. The story has gone forward with the main soundtrack and also the theme is about that track. I think this kinds of technic to construct the narrative in one timeline with one main material is quite simple but also be able to make people concentrate on the work effectively. As the work I have done before, song of the forgotten people, gathering footages and making a sort of collage under one theme is one of the way I edit. Furthermore, In this film, there was a kind of macguffin, making narrative more interesting and complex.
I also loved the style of the film. It reminds me old love story films from 60s or 70s especially in east Asia. Actually I did watch a lots of film from this director, Suzuki Seijun, one of my favorite. His works always give me a great inspirations. I will research more about his work and aesthetic, then write more about him.

'Zigeunerweisen' is not only for this movie. It was already well-known classic all around the world, which can have complex and interesting background. (I think the movie 'gloomy sunday' also shows this kind of things.) SO I think the movie could show or make people think about more than the movie it self.
What is Real?
In this video, James Bridle is talking about new technology and machine learning. At the beginning of the video, he showed many examples of mutual affection of real and fake. Stories and Actual history/Weird videos for kids that is replicating our society on youtube.

I hope to make work that does not necessarily know what it is. At a certain point I became less and less interested in producing meaning—but instead a kind of uncertainty. I was always more interested in how something feels, rather than what it means.
His idea of uncertainty is like the one I have felt on making art. Ive made sort of meaningless things but wanna give some kind of feelings through the work. I can't even tell what that feeling is, but sometimes I can feel it does make people feel in the same way I intended.

I found him on one archive site, and stared to wonder about his life and work. It was kinda hard to find any organized information about him, but according to some of interviews and articles, his art world seems really interesting. He has constructed his own aesthetic through his whole life and I have been interested in that kinds of craftsmanship. His works show a huge influence form underground cultures such as punk, bdsm, zombie and comedy films. To be honest, I've never seen his film yet, but his working process is inspiring and I'm going to make some notes like that for part 3 project. I will research him more if I have any spare time.
